Modality Worklist (MWL)

The DICOM service that pushes scheduled patient and exam details to a scanner.

A Modality Worklist lets a scanner query the RIS for the day’s scheduled patients and pull their details — name, ID, accession, procedure — straight into the study instead of being typed at the console. When worklist data is wrong or was keyed by hand, the resulting tags need repair before the study is filed.
