Static low-resolution overview of a whole-slide (SM) image.

Whole Slide Microscopy (modality SM) images open as a bounded, static overview: dcmage composites the lowest-resolution pyramid level’s tiles into a single canvas at that level’s native resolution.

Compositing costs memory in proportion to the slide, which is what bounds this preview: a coarsest level above ~16.8 megapixels is not composited at all. Either way — via the Tiled viewer button here, or automatically for a slide too large to composite — the full-resolution slide is navigated by the tiled viewer, which streams only the tiles the viewport needs.
