Laterality fix

Correct left/right laterality on a study acquired with the wrong side labeled.

Problem

A knee X-ray or breast tomosynthesis study has Laterality set to blank or wrong — e.g. the left knee was imaged but the tag says “R”. Incorrect laterality can cause the wrong anatomical side to be displayed, lead to wrong-site surgery concerns, and break comparison with prior studies of the same side.

Steps

  1. Open the file (⌘O) and switch to Edit mode (⌘3).

  2. Filter for Laterality (0020,0060) and double-click to edit.

  3. Enter the correct value: L (left), R (right), or B (bilateral). The CS VR accepts any short string.

  4. Click Save change.

  5. Also check and correct Image Laterality (0020,0062) if present — this tag provides per-image laterality for paired body parts.

Result

Laterality shows its corrected value in gold, relinking the study to the correct comparison priors. Series-level Laterality (0020,0060) and instance-level Image Laterality (0020,0062) can be corrected independently.
