PACS

Picture Archiving and Communication System — the hospital's central archive for medical images.

A PACS is the central server where a hospital stores and retrieves medical images. Modalities send studies to it using the C-STORE service, and workstations query and pull them back. Many dcmage workflows end with “ready to send to PACS” — meaning the file’s identity tags and transfer syntax are correct for the archive to accept and index it.
